Ronald Portella Obituary

Ronald P. Portella 58 of Riverside, RI passed away on December 18, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Karen (Sittinger) Portella.  Born in Fall River, MA., he was the son of Manuel and Margaret "Peggy" (Bouchard) Portella. 

Ronald worked as a Production Specialist in the Rhode Island Army National Guard. He was a Veteran of the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant. Ronald, during his service in the military endured Operation Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle, Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan Wars. 

He was a Communicant of St Brendan Church in Riverside, RI. Ronnie was a beloved member of the East Providence Elks #2337, Knights of Columbus Bishop Hickey Council #3623, American Legion Post 10, Combat Vets 9-1, Former member of the Riverside Sportsman Association. 

Ronnie, beside his wife Karen, leaves behind and was the loving father of Ashley Trenholme and her husband Jeff, Melissa Portella and her boyfriend Kevin, Jennie Rathbun and her husband Jeremy, Kristy Sittinger, Kayla MacDougall and her husband Robert and Michael Coleman. Brothers, Mitchell Portella, Michael Portella, Ricky Portella and his wife Charlotte and Michael J. Portella. Sisters, Carlotta Barnes and her husband Don, Rhonda Barata and her husband Richard, Kim Buckett and Richard Buckett.

Ronnie was also the brother of the late Randy Portella and Cheryl Portella. He was also the Grandfather of Little Miss Nicole Trenholme, the light of his heart and also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to our friends, Combat Vets of Rhode Island Chapter 9-1 who have always been there for Ronnie. CVMA of Rhode Island PO Box 370 Wyoming, RI 02898 in Ronnie's Memory.

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday December 28, 2021  from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home 398 Willett Ave Riverside, RI 02915. Burial will be on Wednesday December 29, 2021 at 10:00 in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery 301 South County Trail Exeter, RI 02822.

Due to the Executive Order  # 21-116, mandated on December 16, 2021 by the Governor of  the State of Rhode Island, and to protect our families and staff, MASK'S are required upon entering Smith-Mason Funeral Home during visitation and all services.
