Robert, fondly known as Bob, Githens, age 79, passed away suddenly on August 24th in Sterling, VA. He was the husband of Lynne (Hutton) Githens, married for 51 years, they had two children, Brad Githens of Monument, CO and Amanda (spouse, Rob) Brougham of Sterling, VA. Bob was the proud grandfather to six grandchildren, Avery, Rylan, Addison, Aubrielle, Jacob, and Ainsley.
Bob was born in Michigan to Charles and Louise Githens. Brother to Carol (spouse, Craig) Adams and Patrica Kick. Bob’s extended family also included Lynne’s brother Gordon Hutton and his spouse, Diane. Bob had 4 nephews and 3 nieces.
From 1966-1969, Bob served in the US Navy as a Seabee (Construction Battalion) until he moved to Barrington where he lived for 55 years. His career in construction continued until his retirement as a Project Manager in 2012.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed fishing, boating, and golfing with many great friends and family. He was always working on a DIY project, typically building something extravagant for their home or a loved one. He was fond of his vegetable garden and was known to make friends with anyone he met. His absence is profound, and his memory will live on in all that loved and knew him.
