Wertz, Robert F. 90, of Greenville, formerly of Riverside died Saturday. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Babbitt) Wertz. Born in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Daniel and Sarah(Adair) Wertz. He had lived in Riverside since 1946. Bob was an Engineering Manager for New England Telephone for 36 years retiring in 1984. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 as a Radioman and Tail Gunner on Torpedo Bombers on the Lexington Air Craft Carrier in the South Pacific. He was also an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a Gold Card Life Member and Past Commander of Riverside Post 10 American Legion. Bob was an avid golfer with 2 Hole-In-One’s and was a member of the Hidden Hollow Golf Club Association. He was one of the founders of the Riverside Post 10 Golfing League serving as Secretary for over 20 years. He was a member of the Riverside Congregational Church where he and Dorothy Were married in 1946. A 32nd Degree Mason he was a member of Saint Andrews Lodge #39 and a life member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Providence, the Palestine Temple Shrine, The Masonic Veteran’s Association and the Swords of Bunker Hill. He was also a member of the FOPA Lodge 31 in East Providence, the USS Lexington CV16 and the 43rd Signal Company Association. And besides is wife, he leaves a son, Robert M, Wertz of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, two daughters, Gail Erdie and her husband Jack of New Paltz New York, Terrie Gregory and her husband Jack of Coventry, a sister, Irene Drew of Portsmouth, VA, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two Great Great Grandchildren. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home 398 Willett Avenue Riverside with calling hours from 10 to 11 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be in Little Neck Cemetery in Riverside. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Hospice Care of RI or the RI Veteran’s Home would be appreciated. Service
