Robert Boyd Almeida, 89, of Barrington, RI died Thursday, May 26th, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Claire (Duggan) Almeida.
Bob was the son of the late Manuel and Madeline (Viera) Almeida, and grew up in Bristol, RI. He resided in Barrington, RI and North Palm Beach, FL.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served actively in both World War II and the Korean War.
He graduated from the University of Rhode Island and received an M.B.A. from Boston University. He had a 35-year career at Raytheon Company, holding a number of senior executive positions retiring as Director/Information Processing Systems.
Bob’s great passion was sailboat racing. He owned a number of boats, all named “Banshee.” He was a life member of the Barrington Yacht Club, serving as its Commodore in 1987 and 1988. He was honored with the Isaac B. Merriman Award for his sportsmanship and yachting skills. He also completed 11 Newport-to-Bermuda yacht races, and was an avid racer in the Narragansett Bay Yachting Association, Twenty Hundred Club and the Off Soundings series.
Bob leaves behind three daughters, Christine Tetrault and her husband Paul of Ashburn, VA, Cathy Nolan and her husband, Peter of Rye, NY and Mary “Mimi”
Anglade and her husband, Stéphane of Ridgefield, CT.
He was the loving grandfather of Christopher and Kelly Tetrault, Connor, Caroline and Peter Nolan and Charlotte and Alexia Anglade.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 3rd at St. Luke’s Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington, RI.
