Richard Brandon Obituary

Richard “Dick” H. Brandon

3/20/1943 – 3/29/2025 (age 82)

Born on March 20, 1943, in Plainfield, New Jersey to Eleanor and James Brandon, Dick grew up in Bound Brook and Middlesex, New Jersey with his sister Betsy and graduated from Middlesex High School in 1961. He went on to earn his degree from the University of Vermont in 1965 where he was an active member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. When he wasn’t getting into mischief with his fraternity brothers, his studies layed the foundation for a distinguished career in banking.

After college, Dick followed in his father’s footsteps and began his professional journey at United National Bank of Central New Jersey. When he and his wife Alana relocated to Barrington, Rhode Island, he joined Old Stone Trust Company. There, through dedication and leadership, he rose to the position of President and CEO. His career spanned decades of transformation within the banking industry; he successfully navigated numerous mergers and acquisitions while continuing his work with Shawmut Bank, Fleet Bank, and ultimately Bank of America.

Dick carried a deep and unwavering love for his family throughout his life; navigating the loss of his father at a young age and assisting his sister Betsy in the care of their mother. Dick was deeply proud of his children’s accomplishments and cherished time spent with his granddaughters Sofia, Charley, Avery, and Collins. He found joy in researching family history, playing his guitar, and was an avid fan of Pink Floyd. His closest friendships were a source of great happiness—he especially treasured time spent with his lifelong friends John and Pete.

He is survived by his beloved wife Alana Brandon; daughter Jill (Brandon) Greene; son James Brandon; and granddaughters Sofia and Avery Greene; and  Charley and Collins Brandon; sister Besty (Brandon) Maza, and nephew Scott Maza.

He is predeceased by his parents James and Elanor Brandon, and brother-in-law Dennis Maza.

Thank you to the nurses and staff at Grace Barker Health, Anchor Bay East Providence, and the Miriam Hospital for your care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Rhode Island, of which Dick was a former board member.
