Peter T. Tartaglia

Peter Thomas Tartaglia, age 76, of Riverside, RI, passed away peacefully on November 18th, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. 

Born in Providence on October 21st, 1948, he was the son of Claire Tartaglia (Ciotti) and Tomaso Tartaglia and brother to his “favorite” sister, Donna Hassell (Tartaglia). He leaves behind his beloved wife of 48 years, Judith Tartaglia (Chilson), two daughters, Shana Tartaglia and partner Chuck Richards, Ashley Shirey and husband Shaun Shirey, and his four cherished grandchildren, Chase Richards, Siena Richards, Noah Shirey and Logan Shirey. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Peter graduated from Mount Pleasant HIgh School in 1966, taking pride in being voted wittiest his senior year. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Rhode Island College in 1970. Peter was a math teacher in the East Providence school district for many years, both at Martin Middle School and East Providence High School. Affectionately referred to as “Mr. T,” his former students describe him as a favorite - fostering a positive learning environment by finding a delicate balance of tough love, compassion, mutual respect, and fun. He made a lasting impact in many lives and is still remembered by those he taught. 

Peter was the quintessential family man, working hard, sacrificing, and always putting his loved ones first. He expressed his love for his family with food, nourishing them with his home cooked Italian meals. He was an avid reader, crossword puzzle lover, history buff, and devoted New York Giants and Yankees fan. Always a man of faith, his steadfast belief in God fortified him throughout his life and provided him peace even in his final days..
