Matthew Grant Obituary

Matthew Grant, 64, of Riverside passed away on Tuesday morning at West View Nursing Home after a prolonged illness. He was born January 31, 1959, in Pawtucket, R.I. The son of the late John E. Grant and Shirley (Kirk) Grant. He is predeceased by his brother Benjamin and sister Christine.

He is survived by his 2 brothers: John (Rose Mary Grant) of Barrington, and Thomas Grant of Riverside and, a sister Anne (Scott Farquhar) of Kansas, nieces Sara Gentzler, Angela Goulart, Katy Sicignano, Rachel Kopitke, and his nephew John Farquhar and many great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his Aunt Mary Lou Grant, Uncle T. Peter Grant, Aunt Meredith and Uncle Dan Arico and many cousins.

Matthew is also survived by his close, devoted friend Charles Noice, whom he shared a home with until his hospital admittance in December of 2021.  Matthew showed his family grace, humility, and patience during his illness.

Matthew worked as an insulator and was always good working with on projects with his hands. As he excelled at cooking, he often cooked for his mother and sister and especially liked cooking meals for the Holidays. Matthew had many friends, most of whom were lifelong friends.

Calling Hours will be held on Monday, October 23,2023 at Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Avenue, Riverside from 8AM to 11:00AM. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project to honor Matthew’s parents’ service to the Army during the Korean War.
