Marie J. Vartanian

Marie Joan Vartanian, died peacefully on August 7th, 2021.  She was 98 years old.  Family members along with her loving and faithful caregivers kept her company and gave her comfort during her final days and hours.  Marie was the daughter of Matthews and Khosrovidookht "Kay" Vartanian.  She is survived by loving family members, her sister-in-law Anita (Chaputian) Vartanian, 4 nieces and nephews: Hugh Vartanian (wife Luann Colombo), April Vartanian, Byron Vartanian, Margaret Harris and Tom Harris; 3 grand-nieces and -nephews: Delaney Kay Vartanian, Millie Sophia Harris and Andrew Vartan Harris.  Marie’s brother Vartan Vartanian and grand-nephew Douglas Matthew Vartanian both pre-deceased her.  There are many extended family members in the area as well.

Marie was born in Providence, but grew up and lived in New York City, followed by more than 60 years residence in Rhode Island.  She attended Public School 17 in Queens, Hunter College High School (class of 1941) and Hunter College (Class of 1945).  She loved school and had many friends as evidenced by the kind and loving testimonials, extolling her many virtues, throughout her school yearbooks.  After graduating she was employed by Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and other companies as an accountant.  Marie also lived with and cared for her parents for many years.  She always had a kind disposition, loving heart, sharp mind and keen sense of humor.  After her folks passed, she kept a home for herself in Cranston.  From there she moved on to assisted living and senior care situations in Riverside and finally East Providence.  She always enjoyed reading her Bible and attending Bible study.

Visiting hours and a short memorial service will be held on (Friday, August 13th, 12-3 pm), at Smith-Mason Funeral Home in Riverside.  From there, we will proceed to her interment at The North Burial Ground in Providence.  Online condolences are welcomed at SmithMason.com.
