Margaret "Judy" A. Schantz

Margaret Annette Schantz (Judy), 92, died on October 24, 2016. The daughter of Colonel Richard Booth and Mary Dorothy Pierce-Hughes, Judy was born in Rhyl, Wales on October 9, 1924. She was the younger sister of Elizabeth Blagg.
During her early childhood, Judy spent several years in India before returning to Great Britain. Her education at Huyton College, Liverpool was interrupted when WWII began and the Booth family returned to the Indian subcontinent. For a time, Judy served with the Women’s Auxiliary Service (Burma).
It was in Assam that Judy Booth met her husband, US Army Air Force pilot Robert W. Schantz. In 1947, they were married in Bethlehem, PA.
The Schantzes moved to Barrington in 1960. There, Judy was very active in the life of the community working part-time, volunteering at area churches, creating exquisite crafts, and playing tennis and bridge.
Judy was a devoted mother who is survived by her daughters Ann Meers and Susan Spiro and her husband James, and son Timothy and his wife Patricia. She was the beloved grandmother of David and Carolyn Meers, Topher and Gina Spiro, Lexie and Esha Spiro, and Adam, Susannah and Bobby Schantz. Judy adored her great grandchild, Serena Spiro.
Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at Saints Matthew and Mark, 5 Chapel Rd., Barrington on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10 o’clock.
