Lydia June Newton 94 of County Road Barrington died on her birthday with her son by her side Friday June 19th. She was the wife of the late Mathew Newton. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Casey) Place. She was a state clerk in RI until retiring. She was active in the Barrington Senior Center and loved to dance and sing with Seniors on the Block. June loved watching and attending Boston Red Sox games since her teenage years, no matter how good or bad their team was. She loved cats, gardening, her family, friends, coffee ice cream and travel. Along with Mathew she traveled to England, Bermuda, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, and many times to Vermont.



She leaves a son, Mark Newton, and a cat Ginger of Barrington, and was the sister of the late Rose Nitka, Clinton Place & Helen Duncan.

Family would like to thank the staff of Crestwood Nursing Home for their care, friendship and love. As she always said, "right there!"

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 23rd in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home 398 Willett Avenue Riverside at 11 AM. Calling hours are Tuesday 10 to 11 AM.
