Lauretto “Larry” Marcello Jr., 88, of East Providence, passed away on Thursday August 28, 2025. Born in Barrington, Larry was the son of the late Lauretto and Lydia (Fortin) Marcello and the husband of Virginia E. (Croasdale) Marcello.
Over his life, Larry was a proud member of the Lace Workers Union at Rhode Island Lace Works. He also worked for Campanella Construction Company, Century 21, and RE/MAX. In addition, he was the founder of Independent Realty and Bay Crafters.
Larry will be remembered for his vivacious storytelling, his love of reading, sitting outdoors on a sunny day, and dancing with “his bride.” A lifelong sports enthusiast, he enjoyed golfing, swimming, playing basketball, and cheering on the Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots—he could always be found with the game on.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Virginia, of almost 70 years; his two sons, Thomas Marcello of California and Michael Marcello of Riverside; and his three granddaughters, Olivia Marcello of Warwick, and Haleigh and Alexxandra Marcello of California, as well as nieces, nephews, and many lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lorraine M. (Marcello) Sweet, as well as his brothers Anthony Marcello Sr., Henry V. Marcello, and Joseph T. Marcello.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the East Providence rescue teams, the doctors and nurses at Rhode Island Hospital, and HopeHealth for their compassion, dedication, and support during Larry’s care.
Though no formal service will be held, the family encourages friends and loved ones to honor Larry in their own way—whether through sharing stories, enjoying a sunny day outside, or listening to his favorite dancing song, Oh, Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison.
