He was the beloved husband of Sally (Murfit) Phillips and father to two sons; Brian Phillips of Providence and Timothy Phillips of Woonsocket. Kent was born in Minneapolis, MN and was a son of the late Fred and Margaret (Stadum) Phillips. He is survived by his brother, Dale.
Kent was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force serving as an Intelligence Officer, which included service in Vietnam. After discharge, Kent was employed as a Financial Analyst at Home Life Insurance Company, then TIAA-CREF and finally Textron in Providence, RI.
Kent was very active as a volunteer at the Barrington Yacht Club on various committees and loved cruising with friends over many years. Kent had many other interests as well. He was past-President of the Barrington Preservation Society and a driver for Tap-In. He also volunteered at Blithewold in Bristol, RI. Kent was an avid golfer, both playing and watching. Brian and Tim have requested donations be made to The First Tee at 300 Arnold Palmer Boulevard, Norton, MA 02780. The First Tee provides kids and teens with life skills lessons and character education through junior golf programs.
