Kenneth A. Berg, 89, of Riverside, RI, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 28, 2020. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth "Bette" (Lunn) Berg. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late John and Alma (Stark) Berg. He is survived by his partner and best friend Nancy Thurston.
Ken leaves behind four children: Laurie Ingraham of Foster, RI; Carl Berg and his wife, Kathleen, of Riverside, RI; Cathy Berg of Wilmington, NC; and Sandra Medeiros and her husband, Everett, of Seekonk, MA. Ken was the proud "Grandpa" to nine grandchildren and "Big Papa" to eight great-grandchildren; as well as an Uncle to his nieces and nephews. Ken is preceded in death by his brother, John Berg and John's wife, Reina.
Ken graduated from East Providence Senior High School in 1950. Following high school, he became an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union. Ken and Bette were married for over 50 years and enjoyed many years with their children and grandchildren. Ken always had a passion for boating around Narragansett Bay, especially between Prudence and Patience Islands. He was a member of the Sabin's Point Yacht Club during it's time in 50's & 60's. Ken shared his love for quahogging and deer hunting with his son, Carl. He truly enjoyed family gatherings with his girls at Gram and Gramp's house on the lake at Ponaganset Reservoir and summer celebrations at the Vasa Club. There always seemed to be a project in the works at the Berg's Nest, from refurbishing an old dune buggy to fixing up boats in the backyard. In his early retirement years, Ken began to discover his artistic talent and dove into crafting and hand painting carousel horses with his Uncle Dominic and Aunt Ruth Spadola.
Kenny, as Nancy called him, spent the last 15 years with her and they were inseparable. Kenny and Nancy loved spending time on the water shellfishing together and shared a soft spot for their cats. They continued their love of the bay and spent much of their time at the Barrington Yacht Club. In honoring Ken's wishes, a private memorial will be held with immediate family.
