Jane McCabe Obituary

Jane B. McCabe – 95, resident of Barrington RI for nearly 70 years passed away on January 28, 2021. Jane was the beloved wife the late John R. McCabe.  Born in Michigan on March 6, 1925 she was the daughter of the late Mark and Helen (Baker) Blair.  She was the mother of John R. McCabe II (Pamela) of Barrington RI.  Grandmother to Meredith Reydel (Steven) and Elizabeth McCabe.   Great grandmother to Ainsley, Lauren and Andrew Reydel. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jane graduated from Hope High School in Providence in 1944. She enjoyed her annual gatherings with school mates who remained dear friends throughout her life. She attended Guilford College in North Carolina then returned to Rhode Island where she met her husband Jack. They loved Rhode Island but also enjoyed traveling to Florida and Bermuda.  Along with her husband, they were season ticket holders for Providence College Basketball and Providence Reds Hockey.  They were avid Boston sports fans and would be at most big games.

Jane had an artist skill set since childhood.  She painted her entire life.  She was frequently crafting a new project designing wreaths, slates, and framed paintings.  She was an excellent knitter, sharing her talented projects with many family and friends.  She made hats and blankets for newborns at Women & Infants Hospital until just a short time ago.  Jane had a passion for gardening and enjoyed tending to her yard each season. She loved to bake and share her goodies.  Her specialty was oatmeal raisin cookies! Jane was active in the Barrington Senior Center through recent years attending yoga and other functions.  She was member of the Barrington Congregational Church where she volunteered for many years.   She was a member of the Barrington Women’s Club, and the URI FIJI Mothers Association.

Jane had an energy  and kindness that will be missed by many.   Due to the pandemic, a small, private graveside service will be held at Forest Chapel Cemetery in Barrington, RI.  In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to University of Rhode Island Ryan Institute for Neuroscience or your favorite charity.
