Jim passed from this life to eternity on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the age of 86 following a valiant battle against MDS. He was born in Providence, RI on December 20, 1935 to James A., Sr. and Anna F. (Pannone) Mancini of Barrington, RI. Jim was the beloved husband of Patricia R. (Haughey) Mancini for sixty-two years.
Jim attained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1957 from Rhode Island College of Pharmacy and Allied Sciences which was located on Benefit Street in Providence, RI before being relocated to the University of Rhode Island campus. He practiced as a Registered Pharmacist in Rhode Island for forty-five years. He was the sole proprietor of Rhode Island Prescription Center (RIRX), an independent pharmacy, located at 275 Newport Avenue in Pawtucket, RI for twenty-five years.
Along his life’s path, Jim proudly enlisted into the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He served as a medic attached to the 455th General Hospital unit in Providence in both an active duty and reserve capacity.
In spite of the time constraints he faced as a sole proprietor and a dad of four, Jim made sure to eke out time to indulge his passions of tending his lawn and vegetable garden, as well as spending time aboard his treasured Grady-White, Patti Rae, fishing on Narragansett Bay. When old fashioned New England winters precluded these activities, Jim happily pursued ice fishing around the state and skiing with Pat and their children at Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire where many sweet family memories were forged.. He was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the U.S.A., Bristol County, RI No. 1860, as well as a member of the RI Salt Water Anglers Association.
In addition to Pat, Jim is survived by his children Cathy A. (Burton) Sackett of Warwick, Lynn E. Mancini of East Providence and Robert C. Mancini (Tracey Elias) of Goffstown, NH. His son, James A. Mancini, 3rd of Cranston, husband of Anne (Gentile) Mancini, predeceased him. Jim’s grandchildren James A. Mancini, IV (son of James, 3rd and Anne) as well as Courtney Lee and Mollie Elizabeth (daughters of Robert and Tracey) will lovingly remember their Pop. He was the brother of Dorothy Lafond and Richard Mancini.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, January, 7, 2022 at Holy Angels Church in Barrington followed by interment with military honors at Santa Maria del Campo Cemetery, also in Barrington. At the request of the family, all services were private due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Please remember Jim in your prayers and kindly offer donations in his memory to Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center, 1085 No. Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 in support of this organization’s amazing, dedicated professionals. Also, if you are able, please donate blood to help save a life.
