Platt, Gerald J. “Gerry” 88, of Riverside passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his wonderful loving family. He was the loving devoted husband of Elizabeth “Betty” (Brady) Platt. And they have been married 57 years. Gerry was the son of the late George and Catherine (Trainor) Platt. Gerry retired from Amtrak after 47 years starting with NY,NH&H Railroad in 1942. He was a member of St. Brendan’s Church in Riverside singing in the Choir for 40 years. He was the PGK of Bishop Hickey Counsel 3623, PGN of St. Puis Assembly X Past State Family Member of the year in 1999, and served with the Navy during WWII. Besides his wife, Gerry is survived by five children, Elizabeth Medeiros, John & Jacqueline Platt, Catherine Canavan, Annie Platt and Paul & Melissa Platt, a brother, William Platt, seven grandchildren, Michael, Joseph and Caitlin Canavan, Erin Andrews, Christopher Platt, Laura Medeiros, Brady Platt and three great grandchildren, Antonio and Mia Pagan and Brady Caravan. He was also the brother of the late George and Richard Platt and father of the late James Platt. The funeral will be held on Monday at 8:00 AM from the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Avenue Riverside with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Brendan’s Church, Turner Avenue Riverside at 9 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence. Calling hours Sunday 4PM to 7PM.
