Ellen Marie Zawislak (nee Olson), age 88, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025 at home in Riverside, RI, concluding a long and fulfilling life.
For 69 wonderful years, Ellen was the devoted wife of John W. Zawislak. Together they built a life rooted in love and mutual respect, raising two children: Sharon Boisvert and Kenneth Zawislak. Ellen took great pride in her role as mother and later as a grandmother to John Boisvert, Natasha Zawislak, and Mitchell Zawislak. And even later as a great-grandmother to Perry, Everett, and Braden.

Ellen worked in the Building Inspector’s Department in East Providence City Hall for many years prior to her retirement.
Ellen’s Swedish heritage was a source of great pride throughout her life. She was a lifelong member of the SVEA lodge where she celebrated cultural traditions and fostered lasting friendships with the Swedish-American community.
Ellen was also an original member of the Rhode Island Ski-runners (RISKI) association. She spent many weekends with family and other RISKI members on the slopes and embracing the camaraderie that came with the shared adventures.
Ellen along with her husband John enjoyed bowling and belonged to leagues for 50+ years.
Ellen is survived by sister Shirley Bateson and brother Kenneth Olson. Ellen was preceded in death by siblings George Olson, Robert Olson and Blanche Richmond.
Ellen’s legacy is one of enduring love for family, deep cultural pride, and spirited engagement with life’s joys. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
