“Dotsie”

Dotsie’s world included so many things. She was a wonderful mother to her son Jeffrey Peter Shaw and his wife Natalie who live in California, her second son Michael Dudley Shaw and his wife Barbara from Warwick, and her daughter Sarah (Sally) Lockhart and her husband Jeff also of Warwick. She leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Blake, Andrew, Jacob, and Tara Shaw in California. Great grandson Evan also in California; Michael and Emma Shaw in Warwick, and Luke, JP, and Lily Lockhart in Warwick. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Margaret Tinzmann from Wilmette, IL. Dotsie’s husband Peter passed in February of this year and there is joy and comfort knowing they will be reunited.
Dotsie went to NewTrier High School and Michigan State University. She began teaching first grade prior to the arrival of her children. In 1972, the Shaw family moved to Barrington, RI and this has been her home ever since.
Dotsie was referred to as many things: an educator, teaching English as a second language for many years at the Genesis Center. A singer, as she sang for many years in the Providence Singers as well as the church choir. A tennis player, often playing more than once a week. A Patriots fan, as she and her husband held season tickets for many years. A woman of mission, reaching out to the world and standing up for women against violence and human trafficking as part of the Women’s Global Exchange, including a trip to Ghana in 2002 as well as to NYC 3 years ago at the Commission on the Status of Women. A traveler, as she loved to see the world and just experience life. A devoted volunteer at Tap-In. A garden club member, she certainly had a green thumb. A lover of the water, many fun times on the boat and a member of the Barrington Yacht Club for many years. She was a very social, loving, generous, kind soul. The most wonderful Mom, sister, daughter, and wife. Dotsie, sometimes referred to as “Moosie” by her children and grandchildren, will be greatly missed. A memorial Service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 AM in the Barrington Presbyterian Church 400 County Road Barrington.
