David A. Amaral Obituary

David A. Amaral, 93, of Riverside, RI, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the husband of Dorothy (Reed) Amaral for 68 years.


He was a proud Army veteran, having served in World War II.  He attended East Providence High School and received an associate’s degree from Johnson & Wales.  He worked for many years at Bonanza Bus Lines in Providence in the ticketing office.  He retired in 1989 and enjoyed a long and healthy retirement. A long-time summer resident of Gaspee Point, he had many friends in the local community, and enjoyed boating, photography, and walks along the beach with his wife. 


Besides Dorothy, he is survived by his two children and their spouses, daughter Diane (Amaral) Howkins and her husband Jeffrey of Warwick, and son David R. Amaral and his wife Gail of Seekonk. He was the beloved grandfather of Kelsey (Howkins) Coombes, Mitchell Howkins, Jessica Howkins, Nicole Amaral, Alexandra Amaral, and Nathan Amaral.


He was the son of the late John and Mary (Leite) Amaral, and is pre-deceased by siblings John Amaral, Manual Amaral, and Martha Almeida.


 A period of visitation will be at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington, RI, on Friday, April 9 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, with military honors  to follow. Burial will be private.
