Carolyn "Kelly" Howe of East Providence, formerly of Barrington, passed away January 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, warmth, and an infectious laugh that her loved ones will carry with them always.
A 1958 graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in fashion design, she was an accomplished seamstress who ran her own business from home for many years. Her skill and artistry brought countless garments and wedding dresses to life, and her genuine care for her clients often transformed them into lifelong friends. Her talents extended beyond the sewing machine - she was an avid gardener with a remarkable green thumb, tending both a thriving vegetable garden and numerous indoor plants. She enjoyed singing in a choir for several years as an adult. In her younger years, she created artwork, and more recently had returned to her artistic roots through painting classes. In her later years, she found joy in coloring, carefully selecting contrasts and patterns and proudly sharing her work with family.
Her favorite place to be was Barrington Beach, where she would sit most of the day with a book, shaded by her big beach hat. Nothing brought her more happiness than family gatherings filled with storytelling, conversation, and laughter. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, delighting in hearing about their lives and passing along her knowledge of knitting, sewing, and favorite recipes.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert "Bob" Howe; her three children: Kirsten (Eric), Greg (Tess), and Doug (Jill); her grandchildren Andrew, Christopher, Jonathan, Catherine, Audrey, and Sarah; her great-grandchildren Oliver and Violet; her brother Charles (Susan); her brother-in-law Jeff Howe (Judy); and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth.
