Carole A. Villucci

Carole A. Villucci, 83, of Barrington passed away suddenly on July 13. Born in Providence to the late Joseph and Ann (Matrumalo) Villucci, Carole was raised in North Providence. She attended The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) where she earned her BFA followed by a Masters from Rhode Island College in Art Education.

Carole was a talented artist and a lifelong contributor to the arts and art education in Rhode Island.  Over her 25 year career with the RISD museum, Carole was instrumental in creating, building and developing the RISD continuing art education program.  She was Associate Curator of Education: Teacher, School and Docent Programs, and Head of Education, The RISD Museum.  She was also Adjunct Faculty, RISD, Department of Teaching +Learning in Art + Design and, until very recently, Adjunct Faculty, Rhode Island College, Department of Art Education. And most recently Director, Barrington Preservation Society. She has been published several times and has been recognized for her contributions receiving the Museum Educator of the Year, National Art Education Association (NAE) award in 2002 and Museum Educator of the Year, Rhode Island Art Education Association award in 2006. She also received the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts, Excellence in Programming Award for Studio in the Museum in 1989.Above all, Carole was a devoted and loving Mother and Grandmother, a dear friend and a blessing to all that knew her.

Carole is survived by her sons Michael DiSandro and his husband Mark Bunch of Oakland, CA and Jeffrey DiSandro and his wife Mary of Milton, MA.  She was the loving grandmother of Cara, Joseph, James, and Maeve DiSandro.  She was predeceased by her son Adolph DiSandro III, her sister Joyce Quinn and her former husband Adolph P. DiSandro, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Monday July 25, 2022 from 4:00 PM – to 6:00 PM in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home 398 Willett Ave Riverside, RI 02915. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday July 26, 2022 at 10:00 AM in St Luke's Catholic Church 108 Washington Road Barrington, RI 02806.
