Carol Louttit Obituary

Carol Holmes Louttit, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7th. Born in Newark, New Jersey in 1935, she was the wife of the late T. Robley Louttit Jr. and the daughter of the late Joseph E. Wiedenmayer Jr (Margaret) and Mary Holmes Hale (Arthur). She grew up in Summit, New Jersey and graduated from Summit High School before attending Endicott College in Beverly, MA. In 1957, Carol married Bob Louttit and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage while raising a family in Barrington. She was a fixture in the Barrington community; an active member of Barrington Congregational Church, Barrington Yacht Club and The Harbor’s Association as well as giving her time to Tap-In, The Barrington Garden Club, Blithewold and PEO Women’s Group. She was well known for her many years at The Stock Exchange Consignment Store on Maple Avenue where she discovered her love of antiques. In addition to living at 5 different addresses over 50 years in Barrington, Carol and Bob were thrilled to renovate and spend countless summers at their beloved family home on Block Island. Carol loved nothing more than celebrating the Fourth of July on Block Island with her family.

Carol was known for her love of family. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves Tom & Pam Louttit of Touisset, Jon & Marion Louttit of Barrington, Drew & Tracy Louttit of Malta, NY and Carolyn & Todd McGarry of Barrington. She was the beloved Grammie/Grandma of Jessie and Sarah Louttit, Andy, Adam and Aimee Louttit, Jonathan and Caroline Louttit and Nicholas, Robley and Charlotte McGarry as well as great-grandmother to Emmie, Tommy and Carolyn Louttit. She also leaves brothers Bob Hale, Chip Hale and Joe Wiedenmayer and sister Mary McCarthy.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11AM on Friday, October 24 at the Barrington Congregational Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to Barrington Congregational Church, Block Island Nature Conservancy or Tap-In.
