Alan S. MacQuattie , 77, of Barrington , RI., died peacefully on July 29th, at the Summit Commons Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Providence, RI. He was born in Providence to William Duncan MacQuattie, originally from Ballachulish, Scotland, and Alice Jesse Sproull, a Scot from Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Alan was a graduate of Barrington High School where he played football with the nickname “Crash”. He was a Vietnam-era Army Veteran. Following a medical release from service Alan graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, becoming a professional chef and teacher, and winning several awards. Alan was the co-owner of Taryn Gallery in Warren with his former wife, Robin Vincent Jordan. Alan branched off in the MacQuattie family business to continue Oriental and other fine rug cleaning, and furniture restoration enjoying the reputation of "jack of all trades and master of none". He was an avid outdoorsman and loved camping and fishing where he loved to cook on the fire. Alan was a devoted father, uncle, and “character”.
Alan is survived by his only child, Erin Coco MacQuattie of Warren, and his grandchildren Allana Coco, Lida Coco and Sebastian VanBlarcom; his nieces Holly Meade Sugg of East Providence, Helen Sugg Ridondo of Riverside, and Catherine Pucci of Florida; his nephews, Rob Sugg of Florida, Kenny Sugg of Riverside, RI, and Donald MacQuattie, Jr. of Connecticut.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers William Duncan MacQuattie, Jr. and Donald Sproull MacQuattie, and his sister Heather Sugg.
