Ruth Pace Obituary

Ruth P. Pace,”Mormor”, 95, of Riverside, passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 8, 2018. She was the wife of late Robert N. Pace.

Born in North Swansea, Massachusetts, she was a lifelong resident of East Providence graduating from East Providence High School in 1940. She then worked for the East Providence School department for twenty eight years before retiring in 1985.

An accomplished knitter and crocheter, she took pride in teaching others at the East Providence adult education classes.  Ruth joyfully created many beautiful Christmas stockings for her family and friends over the years. When a new spouse or baby joined the family, they received a stocking and knew they were truly a part of a wonderful tradition.

She was a longtime congregant of  St. Mark’s Episcopal church of Riverside. Widowed at a young age, She relied on her faith in her church and god to help her raise her 5 young children. Over the years she wore many hats, serving on the vestry of her church and  as a greeter for many years. If a parishioner had no way of getting to church, Ruth would go out of her way to pick them up so they could attend Sunday mass. She had also made many lifelong friends from church who kept their “girls club”going for over 65 years.  They would get together monthly for lunches keeping a lifetime of memories alive.

She took great pride in her Swedish heritage and passed that pride along to all the members of her family. Her Christmas decorations always reflected her love of the swedish traditions.

She was also known for her unabiding love of the Boston Bruins. Her den was always always filled to capacity during the playoff games during the 70’s.

There was so much more to Ruth than can be expressed in a simple obituary. You just had to know her.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughters Nancy Pace, Sandra Capaldi, Roberta McDonald and her youngest son Richard Pace.

She is survived by her son Russell Pace and his wife Jackie of Riverside, son in law Ryan McDonald of Riverside and daughter in law Susan Pace of Cumberland, RI.

She is also survived by her grandchildren John, Anthony, Bobby, Jennifer, Jeremy, Liz, Justin, Kaitlin, Lauren and Megan as well as numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.
