Phyllis Hunt of Seekonk, formerly of Barrington passed peacefully on New Year’s Eve surrounded by her loving children. Born May 25, 1932 to Carl Alfred Himberg and Emma Augusta (Mensledge) Himberg in Boston, she was the youngest of six children. She was a woman of deep faith, a believer in honest hard work. Her life's passion was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She grew up in West Roxbury and Ocean Bluffs, Marshfield, Massachusetts. In her early 20's, Phyllis married Robert Allan Hunt and started their family. She is survived by five sons; Robert, Brian, David, Andrew, William, and one daughter, Jennifer. She leaves six daughters in laws; Jeanne, Kathy, Wendy, Dawn, Kathleen and Joan. Phyllis’s immense love for the ocean eventually lead the family to move from Rockland, Massachusetts to a house on the water in Barrington.
Phyllis worked at Rhode Island College for over 25 years retiring from a position in the Career Development Office. She was constantly bettering herself ultimately earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. All the while, she was an active member of her church, her church choir and donating her time to help those in her community less fortunate than herself.
Phyllis's legacy is her unwavering love of her children and their families, her immense loyalty as a friend and her passion for seeing the beauty and worth in all that was around her. Family was everything to her and she was a thankful woman for the family and friends she had and still has. If she called you friend, you were lucky.
Phyllis was grateful to find several caring women to assist her in her later years as her Parkinson’s disease progressed. The love of her family, friends and caregivers will continue to offer cherished memories of a life well lived.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at a memorial service to be held in her honor on January 25th at 10:00am at St. James Lutheran Church at 49 Middle Highway in Barrington, RI. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to St. James Lutheran Church in her name.
