Michael Adamowicz Obituary

Michael Walter Adamowicz, LICSW, died unexpectedly on November 18, 2019.  He was born in Central Falls on September 23, 1957.  Mike is survived by his parents, Walter and Ann B. (Renquin) Adamowicz, and siblings Stephen, Peter and his wife Susan (Grout), Charlene and her husband Gene Carpenzano, and Susan C. Adamowicz.  Nieces and nephews include Kayla, Lauren, Ashley and Christopher Carpenzano; and Cpt. Lee (USMC) and Tom Adamowicz.

Mike devoted his professional life to helping others through mental health care.  He worked for 16 years as a private clinician at his own practice, as Admissions Triage Clinician and Outpatient Therapist at Butler Hospital for over 16 years, and at Thundermist Health Center as the Program Director of Medication Assisted Treatment for the past 3 years.  He was developing a pioneering program of wellness activities for those trying to overcome substance abuse.

Mike was a graduate of Barrington High School where he was on the soccer and debate teams. At Connecticut College, he graduated with a BA in government and history, a member of Phi Beta Kappa and served as a Senior Editor of The College Voice.  Mike’s graduate studies included Stony Brook University with an MA in philosophy and New York University with an MSW in clinical social work.

Mike loved the beach and vacationing in Charlestown and on Cape Cod.  At home, he enjoyed gardening, landscaping his koi pond, and doing home renovations.  Mike’s intellectual curiosity and creativity influenced everything he did from work to inventing a retrieval device for use in disc (Frisbee) golf.
