Barbara "Boo" H. (Humphrey) Sage

Barbara Humphrey Sage, “Boo” passed away peacefully on June 7, 2018 in Middletown, RI at the age of 84 surrounded by family.  Born in Rochester, NY in 1934, Boo was the daughter of Pearl Josephine and Leon Humphrey. After Leon passed away in 1941, Pearl was remarried to Arthur J. Fisher in 1945, Boo considered him a Father.  Boo is survived by her daughter, Anne F. Sage, son-in-law, Jesse D. Sgro, grandson, Miles M. Sgro of Middletown, RI. and her son, George M. Sage, Jr, daughter-in-law Laura, grandson Robert Patton and granddaughter, Katie Ospina of Jupiter, FL.  Boo had one sister, Sally Birnie of Scottsdale, AZ (deceased), niece Tracy and nephew Todd.  Considering RI their home, Boo and her late husband, George M. Sage spent 43 years in Barrington RI where they raised their family and were members of the Rhode Island Country Club.  Boo graduated from Garland College in Boston, MA (now part of Simmons College) with her degree in Education.  While in Rochester, Boo was a pre-school Teacher.  Boo was an active community member, belonging to the Junior League, Barrington Garden Club, volunteering for many years at the consignment shop, Encore at St. John’s Episcopal Church among many RI organizations.  Boo and George were both patrons and subscribers of the RI Philharmonic Orchestra having traveled around Europe multiple times with a group visiting various orchestras and birth places of composers.  Besides being a tremendous supporter of locally owned retail shops, Boo will be remembered most for is her indisputable child-like sense of fun, her loyal friendships and unwavering optimism that positively influenced her environment and all people who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Boo.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Boo’s memory at the RI Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School, 667 Waterman Ave., East Providence, RI 02914 or Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice, 1184 E Main Rd., Portsmouth, RI 0281. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 191 County Rd., Barrington, RI 02806 on Saturday, June 16 at 9 AM with a reception at The Lobster Pot Restaurant, 119 Hope Street, Bristol, RI at 11:00 AM.
