Audrey Gaebe

Gaebe, Audrey Klee, 86, of Carver Road Barrington died peacefully at home on Wednesday. She was the wife of Morris J. Gaebe. She was born in Nashville, IL, a daughter of the late Walter and Mayme (Arnsmeyer) Reidelberger. Audrey attended the University of Illinois where she majored in piano and voice. She won recognition in music competitions throughout the United States and performed in many settings, including radio shows. She has lived in Barrington for the past 57 years where she was very involved with supporting St. John’s Episcopal Church, the RI Philharmonic, and Scouting, raising four sons to become Eagle Scouts. She also had been active in the Barrington Players and sang in the Church Choir for 35 years. She was an integral part of the history and growth of Johnson & Wales University, going back to 1947 when the Gaebe and Triangolo families purchased the School from Miss Johnson and Miss Wales. She is the author of the music and lyrics of the University’s Alma Mater. Her tireless support and dedication was formerly recognized in 1988 when she received an honorary Doctor of Education Degree from Johnson & Wales University.

Besides her husband of 66 years she leaves four sons, Dana Gaebe of Seekonk, Greg Gaebe of Coral Gables, FL, Geoff Gaebe of Burrillville, John Gaebe of Miami, FL, a brother, Walt Reidelberger Sr. of Moraga, CA, a sister Jean Farman-Farmaian of Bethesda, MD, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 11AM in St. John’s Episcopal Church 191 County Road Barrington. Calling hours are in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home 398 Willett Avenue Riverside on Friday from 4 to 8 PM. Burial will be in Forest Chapel Cemetery in Barrington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the RI Philharmonic Orchestra 222 Richmond Street Providence 02903, RI Hospital Cardiac Care Division 593 Eddy Street Providence 02903 or St. John’s Episcopal Church would be appreciated.
